Celebrity Makeup Breakdown: Mariah Carey in Breakdown Music Video

10

I have been watching Mariah Carey’s old music videos and my favorite one is definitely Breakdown from the Butterfly album. In the vidoe, Mariah spotted 3 different looks – a glittery gold eye look, an ultra femme blue eyeshadow look and a sultry smoky eye. I personally like the sultry look the best but now that spring is here, here is a breakdown of the last look.

Eyes
* Silvery blue eyeshadow from lash line to brow bone and just a little under the eye (try Wet ‘n Wild MegaEyes Cream Eyeshadow in Blue Heaven, Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow in Twilight or Urban Decay Cream Eyeshadow Five-o)
* Black liquid liner on top and bottom
* Tons of black mascara to avoid looking washed out

Cheeks
* Peachy coral blush right on cheekbones (try MAC Sheertone Blush in Peaches or Stila Convertible Color in Gladiola)
* Baby pink blush on apples (try MAC Mineralize Skinfinsh in Porcelain Pink)

Lips
* Nude lipgloss (try MAC Florabundance Lipglass)

  1. Great job on your blog. Thanks for the info. Can you do a blog on how to put on blush and choosing blush colors? Thanks again.

  2. Around how much money do you spend buying MAC products? I can’t afford MAC since I’m a college student, and I find that I can’t try most of your color combos since they’re all based off of MAC.

I did see the MAC lookalikes – thanks for that. Hahah.

  3. Came across your site randomly ^^ have to say I really like it and am inspired by what you’re doing. I read through all the archives lol, and I’ve bookmarked your site. keep at it and thank youu :)

  4. hi kimlxf, I was a college student once and I just graduated last year so I know what that’s like. It’s true most of the colors I suggested are from MAC but they are only for reference. If you don’t have the money for MAC, you can always try drugstore brands. I am sure you can find something close enough at the drugstore.

  5. Thanks for all of your work writing and blogging, the info is really useful for those who don’t know makeup much.

Do you know anything about cosmetic colored contacts (i.e. which brands are good, what colors match asians, etc.)? If so, can you write an entry on it? Thank you!

  6. I love your blog, and you’re such a pro at this. I was wondering if you can break down Hilary Duff’s make-up from her “Most Wanted” or “Wake Up” album. I know it’s very simple, but I’m very clueless with all this make-up stuff. Thanks!!!
